The human body will adapt or create compensatory patterns of movement in response to pain, lack of mobility, and/or loss of motor control.
Over time, these changes can lead to more significant dysfunction and/or increased pain and fear of movement.
An isolated or regional approach to evaluation is not sufficient to restore whole function. Treating the pain does not address the fundamental cause of the problem.
A diagnostic list from evaluating dysfunctional patterns allows the clinician to design an effective treatment strategy.
Selective Functional Movement Assessment provides a lens into the problem so that clinicians can find meaningful impairments that are likely contributing to the symptoms quickly and effectively.
Proper diagnosis is the first step to effective treatment.
The SFMA system systematically finds the cause of pain - not just the source - by logically breaking down dysfunctional movement patterns in a structured, repeatable assessment.
It is an objective system, providing clinicians with an unbiased approach to treating individuals.
SFMA allows you to pinpoint your diagnosis and treatment. SFMA makes your treatment programme effective & efficient.
Learn the seven top tier tests of the SFMA and identify the criteria for rating each test as functional or dysfunctional
Learn the significance of pain provocation during the examination process and list two ways in which pain alters normal motor control
Distinguish functional and dysfunctional movement patterns when observing video case examples
Perform a complete SFMA evaluation and all portions of the breakout

SFMA empowers Rehab Trainers to deliver precise, client-centered care efficiently, reducing injury risk and ensuring long-term success for their clients.
SFMA measures the status of movement-pattern related pain and dysfunction using bodily regional interdependent movement to aggravate symptoms and expose the limitations and dysfunctions.
The simple answer is regional interdependence. A problem away from the painful area could be contributing to the pain. The SFMA is a tool to manage regional interdependence with a repeatable, systematic approach.
SFMA provides the key to be a better clinician.
While the SFMA is not suitable for patients in the acute stage, it can be used with patients with lower levels of pain.
A system allows an unbiased approach to look at the individual and form a plan of care for efficient results.
SFMA can identify movement dysfunctions in individuals who are not experiencing pain to identify potential issues before they become more severe.
SFMA is a valuable tool for evaluating and treating musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction in individuals of all ages and activity levels.
SFMA system can also be used to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.
